MCC Supports:

Association of Aid to Orphan Children (AACO)

This church affiliated orphan day-care center in Munhava, a poor neighborhood in Beira, provides care for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS. The center has been conducting HIV-related activities including home-based care, education and orphan care since June 2002. The children coming to the center are often at-risk children. The center provides them with some teaching and structure which helps keep them off the street, where they scrounge for food amongst the garbage. MCC is supporting the ability of AACO to purchase nutritious food for the children’s lunches. This food assistance includes beans, rice and occasionally some greens, which helps to improve and increase the children’s diet.

Association of United Church of Christ for Social Development (AMICUMO)

Muxungue is a community with a high transient rate, due to its location on a major transportation route, with a high prevalence of HIV. AMICUMO has been active in Muxungue since 2001. Its focus is running a vocational center teaching sewing, woodworking and tinsmith skills, while providing home-based care and basic HIV education. The objective of MCC’s partnership with AMICUMO is to increase the livelihood prospects for orphan children, provide clothing for People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and to reduce community misinformation about HIV/AIDS.
